Canada is among the world’s wealthiest countries, with a high per-capita income and a
leading trade market. The Canada Start-Up Visa Program is aimed at providing
permanent residence to entrepreneurs and active investors in companies and
expanding businesses that seek to establish a presence in Canada.

To obtain permanent residence (PR) in Canada, foreign entrepreneurs must propose an innovative, scaling start-up business, approved by a designated organization*.

*Designated Organization means that you need to demonstrate that you have the support of a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator.

If the investment comes from a designated Canadian venture capital fund, you must secure a minimum investment of $200,000

If the investment comes from a designated Canadian angel investor group, you must secure a minimum investment of $75,000.

You don’t need to secure financial investment from a business incubator. You
must be accepted into a Canadian business incubator program.

For all three options, additional fees apply for optional consulting, government fees, business structure, document processing, and immigration filing.

To be eligible for the Start-up Visa Program, you must:

•  Have a Qualifying Business 
• Meet the language requirements (IELTS)
• Have enough money to settle
• Have no criminal record
• Be of sound health

The application process consists of the following steps:

1. Read through the eligibility requirements as well as investment options.
2. Establish or have a qualifying business
3. Get a letter of support from a designated organization.
4. Apply to the Canadian Consulate
5. Organisation sends a commitment certificate to the Canadian embassy (If the letter of support is not included or you do not meet any of the other requirements, the application will not be considered).
6. You must take a language test from an approved agency and include the results with your application
7. While your application for permanent residence is being processed, you can apply for a temporary work permit to get to Canada and start building your business.
8. Wait for a decision.

Processing time takes from 24 to 31 months.

By law, an investor cannot apply for citizenship on their own. The applicant needs to contact a licensed agent to participate in the citizenship by investment. The licensed agent is a law firm that assists applicants at every stage of obtaining citizenship.

The Government of Canada does not give financial support to new start-up visa immigrants.

If you don’t include the letter of support or meet any of the other requirements, the Canadian Consulate will reject your application.

When you apply, you’ll need to give proof that you have the money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada. You can’t borrow this money from another person.

The amount you need depends on the size of your family. The amount is updated yearly.
